Day 0: Scrutineering

  • 0 Km

Today is about getting to the start line. We all meet in Nanyuki, for a relaxed evening ahead of the adventure ahead.

Talk a walk around the bikes to get familiar and have a briefing with the crew on the days ahead.

Nanyuki can be reached via plane, bus or taxi. Even via train for those feeling adventurous, but you might not arrive on time!

Day 1: Into the wild

  • 240km

  • 60% off-road

We ease into the day with a mixed ride in the morning through Laikipia central where the terrain changes from asphalt into gravel, red soil road and some forest tracks. There's a little bit of something for everyone here and it's a perfect chance to beome acquainted with your steed for the next 4 days.

We stop for lunch overlooking the endless northern savannahs, before dropping down off the plateau and into the bush proper. There's a good chance of seeing big game here and we'll be keeping our eye's peeled.

We rejoin the tarmac for a small section before heading into Mt Ololokwe and one of the most Iconic bits of road in the country.

Day 2: Elephants & Mountains

  • 150km

  • 95% off-road

We're into the real adventure now. Early morning, there's an opportunity for those that are keen to climb Mt Ololokwe and gaze out over the plains of Samburu country before gearing up for a day in the bush.

After breakfast we head out into Sera Community and Namunyak conservancies where there's a great chance to build sand riding skills on fast paced Dakar-style roads with countless dry river beds to cross and occasionally an elephant to watch in the bushes.

We stop in at Reteti Elephant Sanctuary to meet some of the younger orphaned elephants before breaking for lunch under the shade on an Acacia.

In the afternoon we set out sights for the heart of the Mathews Range and a night of luxury on the Kitich river, surrounded by nature.

Day 3: Dusty Trails

  • 260km

  • 90% off-road

We cut out from the Mathews Range early in the morning, but not before a hearty breakfast by the river. It's a beautiful ride out of the valley whilst the sun is rising but it's not long before your back into the dusty savannah of Samburu country. â€‹

As we cut our way west we'll have a mixture of fast roads and twisting tracks through the bush. It's a cracking ride full of different terrains.

Just before lunch, we cross back into Laikipia country before breaking under the shade of a tree overlooking the Ewaso River.

After a good feed and a rest, we head out west toward Mukutan conservancy and our home for the evening. Cold beers around the fire and falling asleep to the sounds of wildlife, it can't be beaten.

We may be heading home, but we'll be taking the long way there. In the morning there's a chance to explore Soysambu conservancy, home to big game and the WRC Safari Rally. It's a great chance to hone your fast paced skills and pretend you're a Dakar champion.

After lunch we take the scenic route home via Mt Kipipiri, The Gatamaiyo forest and the tea plantations. It's a very gentle and very scenic route - the perfect end to an epic week.
